Brooks Rainwater - AIA Director, Local Relations
Brooks Rainwater is the director of Local Relations at the American Institute of Architects. As director, Brooks leads the AIA’s Local Government Relations program, focused on advocacy, civic engagement, and the advancement of public policy.
As a strong advocate for sustainability, Brooks frequently speaks and writes on the subject. He is the lead author of Local Leaders in Sustainability, a research study that examines national green building policy. This study includes the reports: A Study of Green Building Programs in Our Nation’s Communities, Green Incentives, Green Counties, Green Building Policy in a Changing Economic Environment, and Special Report from Sundance.
Brooks sits on several boards, including the STAR Community Index Steering Committee, National Association of Counties Green Government Advisory Board, and the US Conference of Mayors Business Council. He is also civically engaged in his own community, serving on the Arlington County Environment and Energy Conservation Commission. Brooks earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds a Master of Public Administration Degree from The George Washington University.
