The Internet celebrity property apparatus is buzzing with news that country music superstar Taylor Swift has purchased a Rhode Island mansion for $17 million--and paid cash.
The original asking price for the 5.23-acre property was $20 million but Ms. Swift snatched it for $17.75 million and quickly wired the money, TMZ reports.
Last summer the singer-songwriter created a celebrity property firestorm when she purchased a Cape-Cod style home in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, allegedly because it was close to her then-boyfriend. Conor Kennedy. She sold that property shortly after her break up with Mr. Kennedy, reportedly banking a quick $1 million profit.
The Rhode Island mansion, built in 1930, is a "quintessentially East Coast seaside spread," according to RealEstalker. Known as High Watch, the 11,000-square-foot property has eight bedrooms, 10.5 bathrooms, and over 700 feet of waterfront.
The house occupies what is "thought to be the highest point of direct waterfront land on the entire eastern seaboard, from Florida to Southern New England," according to RealEstalker.
Details of the deal are still sketchy, but TMZ reported that movers have already appeared on site.
