A Singapore-based company is building a six-story, $160.4 million facility in Singapore described as the largest wine vault in southeast Asia.
The 750,000 square-foot, "ultra-stylish" facility will have the capacity to house more than 10 million bottles, according to a press release from Singapore Wine Vaults. The vault, due to open in the second quarter of 2014, is specifically designed to provide "optimum storage conditions" for investment-grade wines.
"Despite their passion for fine wines, local collectors face a scarcity of suitable storage facilities and exorbitant rent prices, forcing many to send their wines to London for proper cellarage," according to the promotional materials for the facility. "Singapore Wine Vault customers will benefit from reduced storage fees and, given Singapore's location as a regional hub, enjoy easy access to their wine collection."
The facility will include a main storage area and a separate area, named Drôme, for private cellars, which can be customized to the client's personal tastes. A monitoring system will allow clients to track inventory and make payments from remote locations.
In addition to temperature controls and restrictions on "natural light" penetration, the vault "employs security systems, protocols and processes usually associated with financial institutions." Entry to the main chambers will be restricted to "select senior Wine Butlers," the company says.
Access to the Drôme area will require "dual-card verification of both a client and a Singapore Wine Vault employee via a private pin number or thumbprint recognition," the company says.
The "all-inclusive" facility will also a bar with the "refined elegance of a gentleman's club" for tastings and events, as well as a private dining room.
Singapore Wine Vault was established last year as a subsidiary of CWT Logistics, part of the CWT Group, the largest logistics company in the region.
