(DUBAI, U.A.E.) -- As the new year begins, the opening on Monday of the Burj Dubai, the world's tallest building, remains in the news with Emaar's announcement that residents will begin to move in next month. They are the first of 12,000 people who will live and/or work in the 160 floor mixed-use tower that includes apartments, offices, and the first Armani Hotel.
The inauguration of Burj Dubai on January 4 falls on the fourth anniversary of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum's accession as Ruler of Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed is also Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE. On the same day, the Burj Dubai station of the city's new metro will open for the first time.
The first residents of Burj Dubai will live in some of the 144 luxurious apartments that comprise the Armani Residences Dubai located on levels 9-16.
They are currently receiving an orientation that explains the features of the Burj Dubai lifestyle.
The Armani Hotel which opens to visitors in March begins on the concourse and rises to level 8 and levels 38-39.
The Residences, a range of 900 apartments from studio to four bedrooms not connected to Armani, occupy levels 19-108. The Corporate Suites take up 37 floors beginning at level 123.
From January 5, visitors can ride elevators to At The Top, Burj Dubai, the world's highest observation deck, on level 124 of the tower.
