(DUBAI) -- Today the UK's Daily Telegraph newspaper recognized two recent events in Dubai among the top-ten travel and tourism milestones of 2008. At number six was the spectacular opening of the Atlantis resort on Palm Jumeirah which tied with the rise of the tourism industry in the Middle East. Number seven was the arrival of QE2 at its future home as a luxury floating resort.
When Atlantis opened in November, everyone for miles around saw the fireworks that lit the entire Palm Jumeirah Island and the Dubai skyline. Six days later, more fireworks as QE2 was welcomed.
Johann Schumacher, Managing Director, Palm Jumeirah, said, "This is a proud day for Palm Jumeirah, which is rapidly evolving from an engineering marvel and iconic landmark into a world-class tourism destination...With QE2, Atlantis, the permanent Cirque du Soleil theatre, Palm Monorail and a number of five star hotels opening over the coming years, Palm Jumeirah is set to become the centre for tourism entertainment in Dubai."
Palm Jumeirah, one of the world's largest man-made islands, was created by Nakheel; a major developer involved in Dubai's becoming one of the fastest growing cities in the world.
