(ALICANTE, SPAIN) -- Troon Golf, the world's largest golf course operator, opened Las Colinas Golf & Country Club this week along Spain's Mediterranean coast.
The 18-hole championship golf course is located south of Alicante in the region of Valencia. The stunning new development sits in Dehesa de Campoamor between Alicante and Murcia, one of the most established and fastest growing regions for golf anywhere in Europe. Designed by golf course architect Cabell B. Robinson, the layout was carved out of a spectacular gorge, creating breathtaking panoramic views in every direction. With vistas of the nearby coastline framed by the surrounding nature reserve, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club represents one of Spain and Europe's most exciting new developments.
"What has been created at Las Colinas is remarkable for not only the region of Valencia, but for Spain as well," Robinson said. "There is a rich heritage of golf in Spain and a Mediterranean lifestyle that is desired by many. Las Colinas has captured the very essence of this and integrated one of the finest new golf courses within an environmentally conscious development. The natural beauty and unique terrain have helped create what I feel is a truly exceptional course."
A wealth of leisure and residential opportunities is sure to attract the attention of those seeking an active Mediterranean lifestyle. Las Colinas will feature a host of sport and leisure activities as well as golf, tennis, swimming, a state-of-the-art gym, and nature trails for walking and cycling. The ownership group Gmp, has also laid out a comprehensive environmental protection plan that will ensure the community will remain one of the most exclusive and beautiful places to live, setting it apart from nearby alternatives.
Immaculate playing surfaces on the course have been established by the expertise of the Troon Golf agronomists and the dedicated work of the Las Colinas maintenance staff. A selection of unique par 3s presents an array of challenges, all varying significantly in length and topography. Water hazards demand strategic shots along with dramatic bunkering, which guard the entrance to many greens and await slightly wayward tee shots.
"We are excited to be working with the team at Gmp at Las Colinas," said Bruce Glasco, managing director of Troon Golf Europe, Middle East and Africa. "This is truly a unique development which will offer residents and guests an exclusive environment to enjoy the extensive leisure facilities."
