Amazon wants to build three transparent domes as part of its new headquarters complex in Seattle, which would create work and social environments for employees in a greenhouse-like setting.

The goal of the design developed by NBBJ is to "to create an alternative environment....where employees can work and socialize in a more natural, park-like setting," according to the proposal submitted to the city.

The spheres will include work spaces, as well as areas for meeting socializing and dining, as well as a variety of "botanical zones."

"The generative idea is that a plant-rich environment has positive qualities that are not often found in a typical office setting," NBBJ wrote in its proposal to the city. "While the form of the building will be visually reminiscent of a greenhouse or conservatory, plant material will be selected for its ability to co-exist in a microclimate that also suits people."

The transparent exterior enclosure will be composed primarily of multiple layers of glass supported by a metal framework. Areas around the spheres would be open to the public.
