Swire Reveals Plans for Miami's Tallest Tower

Hong Kong-based Swire Properties Inc. has revealed plans for the tallest building in Miami, an 80-story, mixed-use tower on the downtown Miami location the developer purchased this summer.

With the name One Brickell CityCentre, the tower would easily surpass the current tallest building in Miami, the 64-story Four Seasons Hotel, according to data tracked by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.

The tower, which will neighbor Swire's $1 billion Brickell City Centre project, will be designed by Arquitectonica and include retail, office space, condominiums and hotel rooms, according to a company release.

"Our goal is to develop a structure that will be artful in its mix of uses and will advance Brickell Avenue's stature as Miami's premier destination," Stephen Owens, president of Swire Properties Inc., said in the release.

In July, Swire paid over $64.1 million for the 700 Brickell site, which is the Florida headquarters of Northern Trust Bank. Several developers were competing for the site, part of the trend of escalating land prices in Miami.

Swire plans to work with the City of Miami to have the site approved as an extension of the current Special Area Plan for the company's Brickell CityCentre development, Swire said.

Phase one of the Brickell CityCentre project is under construction in Miami's Brickell district and is expected to be completed in 2015.
