Tishman Construction Corporation (TCC) announced this week that they had substantially completed the expansion of the Pennsylvania Convention Center three months ahead of schedule and within its $786-million budget. TCC has obtained a Certificate of Occupancy, in preparation for an early March opening of the Convention Center Expansion.
TCC, which is part of AECOM Technology Corp., a Fortune 500 provider of professional technical and management support services for government and commercial clients around the world, is working on the project as Construction Manager with joint-venture partner Joseph Jingoli & Son.
Joseph Resta, Project Executive of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Expansion Project, says: "The Convention Center Expansion has a fairly large footprint--nearly eight acres--in a uniquely urban environment, in the middle of Center City Philadelphia. The expansion became a textbook case of 'just-in-time' scheduling and construction that ideally matches the experiences of Tishman Construction, ultimately making the frenetic pace seem ordinary."
"Tishman is pleased to be able to deliver the Pennsylvania Convention Center Expansion ahead of schedule and under budget," says Edward Cettina, Executive V.P., Tishman Construction Corporation of Pennsylvania.
"The success of this huge public project can be attributed to seamless coordination among the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Dept. of General Services, and by our joint-venture construction management team of Tishman/Jingoli. Together, we created an environment to initiate and facilitate a series of on-going integrated efforts, saving time and public funds, while delivering a world-class facility."
The Convention Center's expansion includes construction of 935,000 square feet of new space, yielding more than 528,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit area. Included in the scope are a new Main Entrance atrium lobby, extension of the Arch Street Concourse, 23 additional meeting rooms, three additional exhibition halls, offices, a 56,000-square foot ballroom, and a new central power plant, along with associated utility and support spaces. The expansion spans across 13th Street creating an underpass, and extends a city block to Broad Street with the newly constructed grand atrium entrance.
"The Pennsylvania Convention Center expansion is crucial to the economy of the City of Philadelphia and the entire region. We are proud to be part of the team that is bringing it to fruition," said Joseph Jingoli, CEO of the namesake firm. "We believe in treating every project as if it were our first and delivering projects safely, on schedule and on budget."
